Counselling is a generic term for talking therapies of which there are many forms, usually distinguished by different qualifications and the approach to treating the client. At the Mind Body Clinic, we employ psychotherapists, clinical psychologists, CBT specialists and art therapists. Therapy sessions will involve the client and the therapist engaging in a secure relationship, working together to create a positive change in the client’s behaviour.

Clinical psychology utilises talking therapy in addition to other advanced empirical-based techniques, which can be particularly useful for more complex conditions. Our clinical psychologists are qualified up to PhD level. Several of our therapists offer cognitive behavioural therapy, or CBT, for clients specifically looking for this form of treatment.

How does Psychotherapy & counselling work?

Before your first appointment, we will arrange for a therapist to phone you free of charge to discuss your concerns with no obligation. If you are happy to proceed, you will then meet regularly with an experienced, qualified psychotherapist or clinical psychologist for sessions lasting 50 minutes. You can choose whether to work short-term or long-term with your therapist and at no point are you obliged to continue.

Your therapist will provide a secure and welcoming environment for you to help process and work on resolving difficulties that are unique to your circumstances. This relationship is one without judgement, but with complete respect and total acceptance. The content of your discussions is completely confidential and safe.

Treatment overview

You will be able to trust and rely on your therapist as an empathic, understanding companion who will “walk beside you” while you work towards achieving your goals. Whether the challenging experiences you are going through are from the past or present, your therapist will work with you, with an integrative approach that is unique to you and your circumstances. Your relationship with your therapist will be empowering and supportive, striving to facilitate the change that will improve your overall health and wellbeing.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, is a talking therapy that works by creating positive change in the way that you think and behave. CBT is most commonly used for anxiety, phobia and depression, but it can be directed towards any mental health issues. Different from other forms of therapy, CBT looks at current problems rather than past issues, to work towards changing negative thoughts and feelings that can trap you in an endless cycle. Used by the NHS, CBT is effective for several different mental health concerns.
