Introduction
Acupuncture is a system of medicine based on ancient principles.
Traditional Chinese acupuncturists believe that illness or pain occurs when the body’s qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely. There can be many reasons for this: emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection and injury are common. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, the acupuncturist seeks to re-establish and promote the free flow of qi to restore balance, and trigger the body’s natural healing response.
How does Acupuncture work?
Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals such as pain-relieving endorphins, into the muscles and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.
Acupuncture is an effective treatment for back pain, headaches, migraines and various physical injuries. As well as providing pain relief, it is helpful in treating anxiety, insomnia, digestive problems, infertility, pregnancy related issues and much more.
Treatment overview
Insomnia & acupuncture
Acupuncture can achieve amazing results with stress-related sleeping imbalance and insomnia. A report in 2004 found that in patients with anxiety, acupuncture increased both night time melatonin production and total sleep time. Patients who received acupuncture also fell asleep faster and were less stressed.
Anxiety & acupuncture
Many people have symptoms of anxiety, Anxiety is considered to be excessive worrying that’s hard to control, which often has an adverse impact on daily life. Anxiety is frequently treated with psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both.
Acupuncture rapidly becoming an alternative treatment for anxiety. It has been scientifically proven that acupuncture can calm the body and mind (Pilkington 2010/Pilkington 2007).
Back pain & acupuncture
Back pain affects more than 1.1 million people in the UK alone. Acupuncture can provide pain relief by stimulating nerves located in muscles and other tissues, leading to a release of endorphins. Acupuncture also affects other neurohumoral factors that alter the processing of pain in the brain and spinal cord, resulting in improved muscle stiffness, better joint mobility, and a reduction in swelling and bruising.
Infertility & pregnancy
Acupuncture can be used alongside IVF treatment, increasing the chances of a positive outcome. Acupuncture, massage and relaxation increases blood flow to the uterus and helps balance the hormones during IVF. Our therapist has had excellent results in deploying acupuncture in conjunction with IVF treatments to increase the chances of successful pregnancy.
If you are looking for a non-chemical therapy to assist with fertility, then acupuncture is a safe and inexpensive option to consider. It can help women conceive naturally.
Cupping
The suction and negative pressure creating by cupping can loosen muscles to encourage blood flow and sedate the nervous system. Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pain, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, cellulite and to aid facial toning.
Facial acupuncture
Facial acupuncture is a natural, non-surgical facial technique that is now very popular. It's an effective and highly acclaimed alternative to invasive injections and chemical treatments. Tiny, painless acupuncture needles are inserted into various points on the face. We also draw on Ayurvedic skills to include a massage component to the facial, using the pressure points in combination with a jade roller and oils. This transports the client into a relaxed, blissful state. We work on body points during the facial, adding to the effectiveness of the overall treatment.
